Many of us are afraid of change. Fearful of going after our dreams, of trying something new, afraid of breaking up with the old and leaning into the unknown. We would rather want to feel safe with what we have than being uncomfortable not knowing what we will get (yet we also want something different). So we hide behind our fears and make up excuses. We imprison ourselves.
We are fearful of trying something new that can pull us out of our comfort zone. Fearful of giving up on what we have to replace with something that we have no idea if it will work or not. And that is so normal because change is hard. You will feel confused, stressed, frustrated, and you will probably feel like quitting.
If you want something different than what you currently have, you will need to do something different. There really is no other way around it. Because if you do what you have always done, you will get what you always got. And what got you here, will not get you there.
You will need to do things you don’t necessarily feel like doing at the moment. You will feel resistance towards the actions you need to take. It will make you feel uncomfortable because what you need to do is outside of your comfort zone. But are you willing to do it anyway?
Every choice and decision you make, you do it for a reason. So what is your reason for wanting something different than what you have now? What is your WHY? How strong is your “why”? Every time you think of what you wish you would have instead of what you have right now, think of your why – why do you not have that right now? What do you need to do to have that?
There might be circumstances and outside events that prevent you from taking that massive action, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start small right now. It’s all in practice, and every day can be a practice.
You will never feel ready. The perfect moment you are waiting for will never come. So start small, and you will see your choices will change you from the outside in, and it will become easier with time. So take that decision, commit, and trust the process. It’s better to fall than not grow, right? Better try than regret because you know what you lose, but you never know what you can win.
