GOD IS STILL WAITING FOR YOU TO COME TO HIM, EVEN IN YOUR MESS.

So the Lord must wait for you to come to him
so he can show you his love and compassion.
For the Lord is a faithful God.
Blessed are those who wait for his help.
Isaiah 30:18 (NLT)

You are probably a terrible human being. You have done something terribly wrong in your life. In fact, you might have probably done MANY things terribly in your life. If God is truly righteous and holy, can you even approach Him?

We can learn a thing or two from the story of the prodigal son. The brother mentioned in that story did horrific things. He asked his father for his inheritance, which is essentially telling his father that he wishes death for him. He left his father for a distant country and wasted his money in reckless and immoral living, yet, when this son returned to his father, the father didn’t just tolerate him. The father didn’t only accept him. The father didn’t just love him, the father REJOICED!

News alert: God isn’t waiting for you to get your act together before you can approach Him. He isn’t waiting for you to stop messing up, to stop failing, to stop doing that *one habitual sin* over and over again before He deems you worthy.

Here’s the Gospel in a few sentences: God is Holy, perfect, and righteous. When He made us, we were in perfect union with Him. But then Eve ate the apple, and sin entered the world. At that point, we became far from God. And a Holy God cannot be in communion or relationship with unholy people — like us. But He loved us. Oh, how He loved us. So, God, in His infinite love, sent His son Jesus to take the wrath and punishment we deserved.

We were sinful; He was sinless. But Jesus — out of His great, great love for us — bore our sin and died on the cross. Willingly. For us. Why? Because He loved us too. And His death was the ONLY way we could be made right with God.

But it doesn’t stop there. He didn’t just die — Jesus ROSE AGAIN, from the grave, defeating death and sin for all. Making those of us who acknowledge this as truth, confess our sins, and enter into a relationship with Jesus 100% right with God.

So, here we are, made right with God. As in, when God looks at us — messy in all our human ways — He still sees Jesus. He still sees righteousness. He sees us — but through Jesus’ glasses. You are not that powerful. God is bigger than your greatest mistakes. So, take heart and come before God. Come in faith. Come with a heart wide open for His message of hope. He wants to restore you.

What are you waiting for? God will welcome you with nothing but complete love and acceptance. You are not too late or too lost or too messed up. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know anything about the Bible or that you haven’t been to a church before. He created you and longed to have a relationship with you. There is absolutely no pressure on you- He just wants to give you His love and compassion. And it is more life-giving and wonderful than you expect. So, hear this, folks: He isn’t waiting for you to clean your act up. He wants to jump in on the mess with you. Go to Him. Invite Him into your mess this day, friend. You won’t regret it.
