WHO IS YOUR GOD?

In the beginning, the Word already existed.
The Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He existed in the beginning with God.
God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.
The Word gave life to everything that was created,

and his life brought light to everyone.
The light shines in the darkness,

and the darkness can never extinguish it.
John 1:1-5 (NLT)

I ask, again, who is your God or god? You may say it is the Almighty God or Jesus Christ. But all you have to do is look at what primarily occupies your mind during your prayer time. If all you ever do in your prayers is worry about yourself, then, are you placing yourself above God as your God? I know so many people, including myself, often say the prayers, “God, please help me!” But the emphasis is totally on me me me, not really on God. Who do you turn to in your time of peace? Your time of grace? Your time of power? Who do you turn to in your time of despair? Your time of uncertainty? Your time of sadness?

If the answer was anyone besides God, then that could be a BIG factor in the stunting of your growth. We have turned God into this imaginary story because we haven’t taken the time to know Him truly and to know ourselves truly. Here’s an example: Money. How often do you obsess over it? I mean, stress yourself to the point of overworking only to wind up being underpaid. Or you kill your soul by forcing yourself to slave away to receive a tangible item from serving yourself with greed and from perpetuating the spirit of lack within you. Has money become your God?

Pride is the root of all set. Pride does not just mean arrogance, it occurs anytime we place ourselves above God or others. In your prayer time, sell most of your time with thoughts of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Spend time not just thanking Him for the good things in your life, but also just praising Him for who He is, regardless of your life. Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. Romans 8:5 (NLT)

As humans, one of the most powerful tools we have been given is our will power. It empowers us to make our choices. And one of the first choices we get to make is the God or gods we serve. It’s so powerful that some humans choose their fellow created man or other created things such as money or graven images as their god.

No one gets to claim ignorance in the choices we make, and of the God or gods you have submitted your worship to, it’s proven by who or what drives or fuels our passion, rouses our deepest love even at our lowest ebbs and our last search in life. To whom or what do you yield in your most desperate seasons? Who or what ultimately determines your response when push turns to shove? Is God, your God? Today, decide and be intentional about whom to serve and who decides what you do in your secret places.
