ARE YOU DEAD TO SIN OR DEAD IN SIN?

So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus. Romans 6:12 (NLT)

A quick question for you all. Are you genuinely AWARE of what Christ has done for you? Romans 6 speaks of no longer living a life of sin, but living a new life in Christ. At the time we chose salvation, we died with Christ and have become united with Him. His sacrifice freed us from the bondage of sin (which leads to death). Sin is as a result of our darkened world. But Christ, being the light of the world, has defeated sin on the cross and died for it for us all. We now live free in God. So do not entangle yourselves again with the former things, but walk free in the new life in Christ Jesus.

Romans chapters five and six emphasizes on how we’re dead in/to sin and alive in Christ. We have hope that the worst isn’t the ending to everything. We have hope that the wages of our sins have been paid for. We have confidence that we can conquer our sins and fears in life because Jesus Christ has done all this. This is for myself, and I hope it is for you, too. Let’s live in a way where we break free of our sins and live wholly (and holy) to be instruments of righteousness for Christ.

If we want to truly follow the Lord then we must give up our sinful lives. We are all human and live on earth, so naturally, we all live in sin because no one is perfect except for Jesus. We need to give ourselves up and give up our sinful nature. Pick up our Crosses and follow Jesus. This is the way to the Lord’s heart. The more we try to hold on to our earthly lives the further we fall from His glory. If we give up ourselves for Jesus, just as He did for us, only then can we be saved. We’re by nature children of wrath. Sinners do not search for God. From birth, we’re dead in our sins and only a supernatural act of God can “resurrect” a spiritually dead man and bring him to spiritual life. Only God can give you a new birth and only Him can change your heart of stone into a heart of flesh, because the Triune God is Sovereign, not us mortal men.

When we repent, we are given full forgiveness of our sins because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In light of our new beginning, God commands that in return, we forgive others and extend grace as we have been shown grace. It can be one of the hardest things we face in life! The pain and hurt others cause us is real and great, but, the pain of living with bitterness and unforgiveness can poison your soul and destroy you. When we forgive others, we are not saying what they did was OK, but we are releasing them to God and letting go of it’s hold on us.

Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God- truly righteous and holy.
