In today’s world, it’s so easy to be committed to just about anything more than our relationship with God. It’s just so easy to let our bible sit there on the table, to not go to church, or simply scan a devotional for 3 minutes and then race into our day.
I know because that’s what happens to me some days. I don’t get up early either because I was busy doing some assignments overnight, or because I was binge watching my favorite TV show the previous night, and then I let myself be distracted by all my work to-dos. Essentially, I chose those things over time with God. As I looked at my day, the time I had left and all my to-dos, I just didn’t think I had the time.
But that’s crazy thinking, because when we are the busiest or most overwhelmed is when we need time, rest, peace, love and truth from God most. It never ceases to amaze me how much MORE I accomplish on the days I put Him first, and how much more joy, peace & gratitude I feel all day, than when I don’t.
If you claim to be a follower of Jesus, but are more committed to your job, finances, social status or anything outside of your walk with God, you just made that thing an idol.
Today I put first things first (God), spent more time than I thought I had, and it was such a blessing to me! I’m grateful for a God who loves me no matter how many times I stumble my way through doing school, work, relationships, and life my own way, who is quick to forgive me for putting other things first and who loves to lavish His provision and blessings on me the moment I stop trying so hard to provide for myself.
Remember, you always have time for whatever you put first. If you keep wondering why time with God never makes the cut, like time for a workout or anything else, try putting Him first in your day, and your problem will be solved.
It isn’t always easy, but it’s important to exert some self-disciple with this because I believe our relationship with God is the most important thing we will ever spend our time on. What about you?
