Hey, Y’all. So, I woke up this morning with this question I thought I’d ask you. Are your relationships with fellow men drawing you closer to God or further away from Him? Ponder on that! Guys, if we can’t talk about Jesus with most of the people we hang out with (or who we are dating), then it seriously might be time we ask ourselves why we are spending more of our time with them, than with people that God wants to use to bring us closer to Him.
He created relationships so we could refresh each other. So we could come together and pray for one another. To encourage one another. Not to distract us from Him, talk about things apart from Him, or bond over substances that we choose to soak our minds in.
Don’t get me wrong, I know there are so many exciting topics we did rather discuss with our friends than the subject of “God,” but we have to learn to keep ourselves in check. There are times I hang out with friends, and we don’t talk about anything relating to God, but I make sure that my conversations with them are gracious and attractive, as Colossians 4:6 admonishes us.
Our relationships are meant to help grow us. To lift us up in times of difficulties. To talk about our deepest thoughts about God, and to encourage us in all the things He does! I mean, have you ever hung out with someone and afterward, your heart was just OVERFLOWING with love for Jesus, life, and a new passion for tackling the days ahead?! Have you ever been down, and someone looked at you with the tender eyes of Jesus, and spoke the exact verse or words you needed to hear, and it brought you to tears?!
People with a heart after God have a supernatural ability to breathe so much more life into our lives because of God’s Spirit inside of them. Not only that, when Jesus is at the center of our relationships, He will work through them, and THAT’s when we see SO much more of what He can do! And, when we hang out with like-minded people, who have the same focus as we do, it impacts our soul, and trust me, life and time spent with them, will NEVER get old.
Now, does God call us to be a light in people’s lives? Yes. Does He call us to go into the dark places and befriend sinners and unbelievers? A definite YES! And am I saying to desert your friends who don’t know Jesus? NO. But if the MAJORITY of our time is around people who don’t know Him at all, or worse yet, don’t make you think once about Him, then you have to start to ask yourself why that is. Also, consider that this may be a reason you aren’t growing in your relationship with the Lord as much as you’d like to.
Bottom line: Keep shining for Jesus, but don’t lose Him in your relationships.
