FOR YOUR SAKE, LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS.

I’m sure you’ve probably heard the saying, ‘expectations are disappointments waiting to happen.’ Having expectations of others, ourselves or situations is a set-up for us. If what we are expecting doesn’t happen (which is usually the case) then we usually feel frustrated, angry, hurt, resentful or disappointed.

Take a moment and think about the thoughts you have when an expectation of yours isn’t met. Are they kind, supportive and empowering? My guess is no. If that’s true for you, THAT is what creates the feelings of frustration, anger, resentment or disappointment, NOT what actually happened. It’s our perception and what we say about ourselves or others in that unmet expectation that creates the suffering.

So what can we do to put the kibosh on the expectations? LET. THEM. GO. And bring yourself back to the comfort of the present moment. There are no expectations or disappointments in the present moment, and that frees up a lot of mental energy that’s wasted if you’re ruminating about the past (which fuels guilt and regret) or the future (which fuels anxiety, worry, and fear).

When you hang out In the NOW, all is well, and it leaves you open to other possibilities in your life. Someone who goes into a situation with high expectations or specific expectations might end up leaving that event without those expectations being fulfilled. However, someone who is without expectation has an open mind. He will not have to deal with the disappointment of things not turning out as planned.

Folks, there is a way to be happy: LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS!
