“While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God.” Hebrews 5:7 (NLT)
I can’t help but read this verse, and see a picture of Jesus, on His knees, tears streaming down His face, while He spoke to His Father. Speaking to the only One who He knew could change things, move things, and address things. Speaking, with reverence, to the One who had power over it all.
What if we all began to pray the way Jesus prayed? What if we actually came to God, in reverence, every time, speaking to Him from the depths of our sinful hearts? What if we came to Him in tears, and loud cries, letting Him know how much we needed Him, right from the start?
I think it would change things. I think it would change EVERYTHING. And we, too, would be heard because of our reverence.
What are you asking God for lately, dear friend? What mountain do you need help moving, or chain do you need help breaking?
Jesus was never afraid to let heartfelt cries escape in His prayer times, or let streams of tears pour down His cheeks. Jesus knew how to pray and, He gave us a blueprint, many years before. I think He wanted us to see, that the more power we give God in our prayers, the more power we will see in our lives, and that, was what prayer was truly made for.
Whatever it is lately, go sit before God. See your Jesus, next to you, nodding His head as you talk to Him. Reminding you that He, too, needed God, just like you do right now, in times of anguish, in times of heartache, and in times of fear.
He wants you to pray like He always did. With reverence and power! Knowing that when you shout or cry, God will hear you, and He won’t drop a single one of your tears.
