It’s not easy to forgive when you’ve been wronged gravely. At times, reconciliation is not even possible. You may have to walk away from the relationship, but you can still forgive. When you get stuck in pain, you will never have peace. Leave the matter to God. Romans. 12:19, “…never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God”. (NLT) Remember what Jesus did on the Cross for you. If God kept records on wrongdoings, who would stand a chance? So, let it go and put it behind you. Rest in the knowledge that forgiving sets you free. It gives you peace that transcends all understanding.
Holding onto resentment and anger is like drinking poison and hoping the other person dies. We cannot change the past or what has happened so why do we spend so much energy holding on to it? Guess what? We all mess up. Not one single person in this world is perfect. Forgiveness in any relationship is important. We aren’t going to move forward if we choose not to forgive.
Forgiving others doesn’t benefit anyone but you. It heals your body, mind, and spirit. Forgiveness also opens up a pathway to a new place of peace where you can persist despite what has happened to you.
“May God help us be a little kinder, showing forth greater forbearance, to be more forgiving, more willing to walk the second mile, to reach down and lift up those who may have sinned but have brought forth the fruits of repentance, to lay aside old grudges and nurture them no more.” – Gordan B. Hinckley.
