“You never have to advertise a fire. Everyone comes running when there’s a fire. Likewise, if your church is on fire, you will not have to advertise it. The community will already know it.” A couple of weeks ago, I read that a newlywed couple lost all their belongings to a wildfire- everything but their lives were spared, praise God! When there is life, there is hope. The news of the tragedy flew across town, even faster than lightning. Friends and neighbors were left perplexed by the incident. We know how powerful any fire outbreak can be. It can be devastating, but it can also restore and bring about a new lease on life.
Ever wondered what would happen if you and I were both on fire for the Lord? One thing is inevitable- we won’t have to tell people that we are on fire for the Lord. They’ll see it in everything we say and do. We sometimes forget that God didn’t just create us for the sake of creation’s sake, He created us for His glory, to be on fire for Him. “Bring all who claim me as their God, for I have made them for my glory. It was I who created them.” Isaiah 43:7 (NLT) So, we ought to burn passionately for God.
Many a time, I hear Christians say with their mouths that they want to go all out for God, to burn passionately for God, only for me to see them go about it the wrong way. Some things are easier said than done. It’s easy to hear a powerful sermon in church on Sunday morning that gingers your spirit into wanting to serve God passionately, but what happens after you leave the church that day? Will you still be passionate for God when the trains are delayed on a Monday morning? Would that hunger and yearning still be there when your faith is tried? We can’t claim to want to know and serve God passionately, and then do things that are contrary to what God wants. If we really are on fire for the Lord, the intimate relationship that God desires will be found in us. When we spend quality time with God, the evidence of being on fire for God will be seen in us.
It is always my desire to see the youths of this generation be on fire for the Lord. Imagine if all youths around the world surrendered and prayed for the fire of God to burn within their hearts. Wouldn’t that be awesome? Youths on fire can bring about change in schools, neighborhoods, cities, state, and even all over the world. This is what I’m fervently praying for, to see the youths of this generation return to their first love. To see youths be on fire for the Lord. We know how effective fire is! We would change the whole world. Most, if not all the problems we are facing in the world today is as a result of people not knowing God. Remember, fire doesn’t need to be advertised! People take to their heels once they see the sight of fire!
John answered their questions by saying, “I baptize you with water; but someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. He is ready to separate the chaff from the wheat with his winnowing fork. Then he will clean up the threshing area, gathering the wheat into his barn but burning the chaff with never-ending fire.”
Luke 3:16-17 (NLT)
In order to sustain a fire for a while, a steady supply of fuel is needed to do the job. So it is with our relationship with God. We need to constantly read the Word of God to keep our fire burning. Also, without an outside intervention, the fire will quench. And in order to avoid that, we must keep fueling it. There will definitely be oppositions to our fire. Remember, the devil doesn’t sleep. He is constantly roaming about looking for whom to devour. It is important to know that we are not alone in this battle. Do your part and leave the rest to God to handle. If you are faithful in the little, best believe that God will honor your faithfulness. God will protect the fire he has started in us.
The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
1 Corinthians 10:13 (NLT)
Lord, we desire to see Your kingdom come
To see the glory of Your Son
Shining bright on everyoneAll we desire is Your eternal flame
Burning brighter than the sun
Bringing hope to everyoneFor my generation Lord
I am crying out for more
Come and fill me with Your fire
Set me ablaze, set me ablaze
