Some of us must have, one way or another seen or heard this cliché, “To err is human, to forgive is divine.” This saying, I believe, is borne out of deep thought and observation of someone who is genuinely in touch with how frail and vulnerable human beings are without divine support. It is equally essential that the ultimate privilege of mercy is ascribed to God- the only one who cannot make mistakes!
There is no one born of a woman who has not made a mistake in this life. Mistakes are common to both men and women. There is a cruel twist to mistake; it does not consider whether it is made intentionally or otherwise, once it is made, the consequence sets in. Most times, the gravity of your mistakes can indicate the magnitude of your future. If you have a great future, it is Satan’s ploy to push you to great mistakes. The devil does this because he has no power to change your future, but he has the trick to commit you to errors that will jeopardize it. The future is exclusively reserved for God. God said:
“For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)
No one becomes anything in this life without God’s permission. There is nothing a man does, be it positive or negative, that God does not know of. What a man or woman becomes in the future is exclusively at the mercy and grace of God. The future cannot be changed, neither can it be tamed. However, what the devil does is to work alongside you through deception to destroy your own destiny by putting stumbling blocks along the path of your own future.
It is possible that there are one or more mistakes that you are crying about to God to forgive you. You can be well assured that God, who is all merciful and compassionate, will forgive you. The grace and mercy of God will overturn the consequences of that mistake so that your future won’t be tarnished by the devil. Note this: You are not a mistake because you made one, you only become a mistake if you continue in it. It is also of great importance to know that God will not reprimand you because you made a mistake, He will only punish you if you fail to heed His warnings and make necessary corrections.
“The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust.” Psalm 103:8-14 (NLT)
