YOU KNOW THE BIBLE, BUT HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW THE AUTHOR?

IMG_8017“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter” Matthew 7:21 (NLT).  Before reading on, I would like to remind us that everything written in the Bible, according to 2 Timothy 3:16, is inspired by God as a means to teach us the right thing and to point out what’s wrong in our lives.
One thing that bothers me is this: many think they know God when in reality they only have an idea of Him.  And because some do not know God, they are able to sin comfortably. There are so many reasons some believe they’re Christians. The most prevalent one is people thinking that because they attend church regularly that they are Christians. Need I remind us that “Just going to Church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.” – G.K Chesterton.
I’m not saying that going to church is a bad thing, in fact, Hebrews 10:25 says that we should not “neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” (NLT) But many have turned the church into a club, instead of a treatment center. We’ve turned the church into a place where we go to gossip about the latest trend. These days, folks are being deceived by some false doctrine in the church that they end up mistaking God for something else. One can’t really know God if all that is preached in the church is ‘half-baked.’
Some claim to be Christians, but do not love the way Christ taught us to do. As Christians, it is our responsibility to strive to be like Christ in every area, including loving others. According to 1 Corinthians 13:2, if you have all the knowledge of God, but don’t love others, you are nothing. And there are some who say the words “I love you” and don’t know God. It is impossible to love without knowing God because God is love. He is the creator of love. God demonstrated His love for us by sending His only Son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross for us.
In summary, many who claim to be Christians are not really Christians, they only have an idea of Christianity. And it’s worrying that some are just okay with going to church and not wanting to know God on a deeper level. Sadly, many will keep on living their lives thinking that they’re living for God, only to hear Jesus Christ tell them “I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.” Matthew 7:23 (NLT)
