A LIGHT IN THIS DARKENED WORLD.

Today, Times Square Church will embark on a 3-day fasting and prayer for the teenagers and youths of this generation. And what a time it is for us to come together as a body to pray. The devil has been roaming about targeting teens and youths, and it’s time to stop him in his tracks. All too often, we are busy focusing on other things that we turn a blind eye to what the devil is doing in the lives of some of our young ones.
Age thirteen to twenty-five is the delicate age of one’s life.  Whatever you do at this stage of your life, be it good or bad, is able to control the course of your destiny. This is why we are reminded in Ecclesiastes 12:1 that we should not “…let the excitement of your youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor Him in your youth before you grow old and say, ‘Life is not pleasant anymore.'” (NLT) The devil is aware of this, that is why he uses various ways to manipulate young folks. One lie that the devil tells people is that they can have fun in their tender age and then return to God when they’re old. How untrue! If you’re a smoker, drunk, fornicator, or [insert your struggle here], and you don’t curb these habits now that you’re young, there is a high chance that these habits won’t leave you when you’re old.
Some youths think that because a pastor or mentor who was once a heavy drinker, smoker or club-goer during his youthful years can be used by God, that they still have time to change their ways and be used by God. This is another lie the devil tries you feed young adults with. The same grace that God gave that pastor or mentor doesn’t necessarily mean the same grace would be given to you too. The grace God gave to David after he slept with Bathsheba, and orchestrated the death of her husband, isn’t the same grace He gave to Eli and his sons after Eli’s sons made fun of the offerings given to the Lord. We are supposed to learn from people’s mistakes and make changes to our own lives, not follow the path that that they once followed and hope that change will come at a later time. The grace of God is not meant to be abused!
We live in a time where the culture of this nation has gone against God. High school students in public schools are being taught that same-sex marriage is right. They’re being shown that it’s okay to be pro-choice. Family values are being abandoned. Teens are being hooked into drugs and pornography right from high school. It is becoming increasingly difficult educating a child in this day and age. The government can kick God out of public schools, but they can’t take God away from us. God has called us believers to be a light in this dark world. Jesus said in Matthew 5:14-15, “You are the light of the world- like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.” (NLT)
